Why give up culture and social life at such a particular moment? That’s why Guide Turistiche Pavia is offering, starting June 14, a series of guided tours off the beaten path, to take advantage of the “local tourism” that everyone has been talking about in recent weeks and to do what we often hear people say: “we travel all over the world and then don’t really know our own territory”.
I was thinking about it just the other day when, after reaching the summit of Monte Lesima following a beautiful hike that started from Brallo, I found myself facing a spectacular panorama that, in some views, reminded me of my trekking experiences in Peru. Together with my hiking companion, who is also a fellow licensed tour guide, we talked about the many opportunities our province offers, combining nature and culture, while our calendar of guided tours in Pavia was already going to print.
And since this is a particular and difficult time for everyone, we decided to add a touch of solidarity to our initiative in order to provide concrete help to those who need it most: for this reason, part of the fee paid by participants to take part in our guided tours will be donated to several associations that support people in greater need. This time, the beneficiaries will be the AGAL Association – Associazione Genitori e Amici del Bambino Leucemico and the AINS Association Onlus – Associazione Italiana Nursing Sociale.
For now, our proposals focus on the center of Pavia, with a very special and evocative itinerary on the theme of angels and archangels, and a more classic one that is always popular and full of curiosities, as it will explore people and places connected to our beautiful river, the Ticino. We will then move out toward the outskirts, since Pavia has the wonderful characteristic of offering interesting sights even outside the historic center. We will begin with the picturesque San Pietro in Verzolo neighborhood, with its “village within the city” atmosphere and its popular character shaped by the former presence of historic factories as well as by agricultural activities once linked to its ancient mills.
Not to forget our children, who have already experienced very particular months with distance learning, we also offer a fun treasure hunt around the Castello Visconteo, to spend a morning outdoors having fun and discovering something about the history and customs of the castle’s past. Of course, the tours will be conducted in full compliance with all the safety regulations outlined in the flyer and on our website; for this reason, the number of participants will be limited, but there will always be the possibility to book the same tours on different days and at different times for those who already have a small pre-formed group of interested participants.
In addition, some guided tours can be offered, upon request, also in French and English, for international visitors or simply for those who would like to take advantage of this moment to brush up on their language skills.
