After the success of the summer guided tours and the satisfaction of having managed to raise and donate a contribution to two associations that are very close to our hearts (AGAL – Associazione Genitori e Amici del Bambino Leucemico and AINS – Associazione Italiana Nursing Sociale), Guide Turistiche Pavia is also offering a series of guided city tours in September and October: PAVIA COMPILATION! A mix of the most successful summer tours and… some interesting new additions.
The program begins on Saturday, September 5 with two churches, Santa Maria Canepanova and San Luca, which provide the opportunity to tell the story of a little-known yet very fascinating period in Pavia’s history, between the 15th and 16th centuries, while passing through two highly evocative neighborhoods along the route. On September 12, in the afternoon, we will instead return to San Pietro in Verzolo to admire the parts of the ancient monastery that are normally not open to the public, visit the church, and recall distant memories of the neighborhood, before strolling along Via dei Mulini and reaching the beautiful Molino Ferrari.
On Saturday the 19th, again in the afternoon, we will be back at the Castle for an event dedicated to children: the very fun Treasure Hunt discovering characters, customs, food, dances, and games from the time of the Visconti Sforza dukes. With Pavia Compilation!, we have also introduced a city Treasure Hunt for adults: September 26 will in fact be entirely dedicated to them. A series of challenges to complete that will allow participants to discover places and figures from Pavia, with a surprise stop curated by Il mondo di Tels of Pavia. A must-not-miss opportunity to feel like kids again!
On Saturday the 3rd, in the late afternoon, we will be joined by the renowned medieval chronicler Opicino de’ Canistris and his maps to compare today’s city with that of the 14th century. We will then jump back to contemporary times on October 10, with an evening guided tour dedicated to the light sculptures of Marco Lodola. The itinerary focusing on Pavia’s famous women, so popular during the summer, returns on Saturday, October 17 in the afternoon: strolling through the city center, we will recall the lives and curiosities of great women such as Teodolinda, Cecilia Gallerani, Beatrice d’Este, Maria Theresa of Austria, Adelaide Cairoli, Maria Corti, and many others connected to Pavia.
Finally, on Sunday, October 25, we will conclude this series of tours with an itinerary dedicated to the “frozen movements” represented by Pavia’s sculptures, with particular attention to their materials. Unless guidelines change, the way the guided tours are conducted will remain the same: a maximum of 20 participants, attention to social distancing, mandatory face masks, and the use of an amplifier microphone by the guides when necessary.
